Camera Quickstart is a focused 2½-hour beginner camera class in Toronto for DSLR and mirrorless owners who want to set up their cameras properly, move beyond AUTO and take greater control over focus, ISO, colour and exposure.
Just $129 for the full session - downloadable student notes included.
Get off to a stronger start with your camera in just 2½ hours. This class is ideal if you want practical help with essential settings but aren’t ready to commit to the more extensive Photo 101 course.
Take much greater control than the AUTO mode provides. Learn the vital controls. Student notes included!
This session is for owners of interchangeable mirrorless or DSLR model cameras from all manufacturers.
Both classes are designed for beginners using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, but they serve different needs.
You recently purchased a camera, still depend heavily on AUTO, or want help understanding its essential settings. This focused 2.5-hour class covers camera setup, focus controls, ISO, colour control and adjusting photo brightness/exposure.
Camera Quickstart is the fastest way to become more comfortable operating your camera, without committing to a multi-week course.
You want a complete photography foundation—not simply help setting up your camera. Over four weekly classes, Photo 101 explores exposure, focus, lenses, depth of field, motion effects, composition, photo editing and the creative decisions involved in making better photographs.
The course also gives you time to practise between classes, complete photography assignments, ask questions and receive guidance as your skills develop.
Choose Camera Quickstart if your immediate priority is understanding and setting up your camera.
Choose Photo 101 if you want to understand photography more deeply and develop lasting creative and technical skills.
You do not need to take Camera Quickstart before attending Photo 101.

Knowing how to 'take over' camera focus to get precise sharpness wherever you need it is vital. In the AUTO mode you have little to no control over where the camera focuses. We fix that right away.
There are a handful of key controls found in your menu that you will want to learn to use to maximize your camera's effectiveness in varying situations.
Ensuring that your camera's ISO setting is optimized for maximum flexibility in changing light will ensure that your camera does not struggle, even when light is low.
We take a tour of the white balance menu to learn how to use it to ensure consistent colour accuracy.
Your camera can, without warning, make photos too dark or too bright. We show you a powerful yet simple control for adjusting photo brightness when this occurs to get the shot right 'in camera'.
Tips, techniques and guidance to help you get the most out of your camera in a short period of time. We will also show you the path to grow your knowledge even more.
