Photo 101 ($239 - 4 Weeks)

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

 

In Photo 101, you will master essential photography skills and techniques to capture captivating images with confidence. This course covers:


  • Camera Settings: Learn the vital controls of your camera, including setup for focus, color, and image quality to ensure every shot is your best shot.


  • Exposure Control: The camera can sometimes make photos too bright or dark. We will show you the easy method to get the exposure you want.


  • Shutter Speed & Motion Effects: Freezing and blurring subjects in motion for those 'frozen in time' moments of fast moving action, or creative blur to make the subject motion part of the story.


  • Depth of Field: Get that creamy, out of focus background for portraiture, or razor sharp 'infinity' focus for landscape shots.


  • Lens & Perspective Choices: Know how to select the right lens for the task at hand.


  • Composition Essentials: Apply composition tips and techniques that make your photos visually compelling.


  • Photo Editing: We'll show you the how to improve your photos using Adobe Lightroom with a live demonstration.

Our Photo 101 course is designed with new photographers in mind. If you feel that you aren't taking full advantage of the creative potential that your camera has to offer, then we invite you to join us.


Please note, our courses are tailored for adult learners, and we welcome participants aged 18 and over.

CAMERA REQUIREMENTS

 This course is designed for users of digital interchangeable lens cameras (DSLR and mirrorless types).


We support interchangeable lens cameras from:

Photo 101 - The Class Experience

Photo 101 is our most popular photography course, available in Toronto in a live classroom environment, OR via Zoom meeting online, which you can attend from anywhere in the country. 

This course is designed to give beginners a strong foundation in both the creative and technical aspects of photography. This four-week course is led by an exceptionally experienced photographer and educator who provides personal guidance to help you develop essential skills.


Over four consecutive weeks, you’ll dive into the key fundamentals of photography, exploring everything from camera settings and composition to depth of field and motion effects control, all while maintaining excellent  exposure. Each 2½-hour session, with time for bonus questions, is tailored for small class sizes, ensuring an interactive learning environment where you can ask questions and receive focused attention.


This course is crafted to be both rich and fulfilling, perfect for those pursuing photography professionally or as a passionate hobby. Each week, you'll learn new concepts and complete hands-on activities to reinforce your skills. Additionally, light weekly photo assignments are provided to deepen your understanding, with assignment results reviewed through a shared Flickr group to inspire improvement and growth.   See our customer reviews here.
